During the Mexican Revolution, the Catholic church was split into two factions. Half were on the Federal side, which lost the conflict, and all of their clergy and bishops were expelled from Mexico. Bishop Fairfield fled to the United States and spent the remainder of his days with his fellow expelled clergy ministering to Southern California Latinos.

DUARTE-COSTA, Carlos, a Roman Catholic Bishop in Brazil was consecrated on 8 December 1924 by: De Oliveira-Cintra, Sabastiao Leme de Oliverira-Cintra assisted by Alberto Jose Conclaves and Benedito Paulo Alves de Souza, all were bishops of several of the Roman Catholic Dioceses in Brazil. After Duarte-Costa split from Rome, Pope Pius XII excommunicated him, but did not depose his orders. The Bishop promptly founded a new church and took his bishops and priests with him. Pius XII attempted to undo his mistake at underestimating the resolve of his clergy in Brazil, to no avail. The Roman Catholic Church has been trying to bring The Brazilian Catholic Apostolic Church back into communion with Rome ever since. They have consistently refused. Below is a Photostat of the Duarte-Costa apostolic succession: "Succession Apostolique" issued by Monsignor Mario Conejo Radavero, Marie Mont Saint Aignan, France, while assigned to work in the Holy Office of the Vatican curia in 1924.
